Gaukushon («killing the bull) — in the distant past was a large trade square of Bukhara, where previously located the massacre. Later Khoja — Gaukushon became one of the largest ensembles of the city center. It was built in the XVI c. and includes a large madrasah and mosque with a high and wide across the minaret with which minaret Kalyan (XII c) only can contends by size. Madrasah Khodja Kalon was built in 1570 on Sheikh Khodja Sad’s money, known as “Khodja Kalon” (great Khodja) which is reflected in the name of the mosque and the entire whole complex. Madrasah has an unusual trapezoidal shape since it is built on the crossroads and logically must be fit into the urban landscape. Though it didn’t affect scheme of yard buildings. Mosque (masjid-i-jami), known as “Khodja Mosque” was built in 1598 along with minaret.
